Summary:Described herein are novel uses of stem cell inhibitors for promoting the release and mobilization of hematopoietic cells from mammalian marrow. The invention relates to stem cell inhibitors such as murine and human macrophage inflammatory protein-1alpha (muMIP-1alpha and huMIP-1alpha/LD78), and analogues and variants thereof, and methods of their use in the harvesting of hematopoietic cells prior to autologous or heterologous transportation. Therapeutic applications are included in the enhancement of responses against infection, and in the treatment and prevention of neutropenia.
Abstract:Stem cell inhibitors such as murine and human macrophage inflammatory protein-1alpha (muMIP-1alpha and huMIP-1alpha/LD78) and their analogues and variants enhance the release and mobilization of haematopoietic cells. This property makes them useful in enhancing responses against infection and in cell harvesting.
