The invention relates to stem cell inhibitors such as murine and human macrophage inflammatory protein-1alpha (muMIP-1alpha and huMIP-1alpha/LD78), and analogues and variants thereof, and methods of their use in the harvesting of hematopoietic cells prior to autologous or heterologous transportation.
